If you are using the new Term Store and trying the create a column of type "Managed Metadata" in a site created using the "Blank Site" template you may get the following message in the Term Set Settings:
"The required feature is not enabled for this column type"
This is because the Blank Site template does not active some features by default including the hidden "TaxonomyFieldAdded" feature required to add a managed metadata column.
You can use the following command to activate:
Enable-SPFeature -id 73EF14B1-13A9-416b-A9B5-ECECA2B0604C -url http://yoursiteurl
